THINGS TO DO ON THE MONTEREY PENINSULA...

 

The Monterey Peninsula, an enclave of about 50,000 people in the towns of Carmel, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach and the surrounding areas of Big Sur and Carmel Valley, offers a plethora of activities in addition to its world famous golf courses (The Monterey Peninsula was voted the World #1 Golf Destination outdistancing Scotland, Ireland, Pinehurst et al). Here are a few suggestions (or call us for more).

 

 

Carmel/Pebble Beach

• Drive the famous 17 mile drive in Pebble Beach (charge of $8.00 per car)
• Carmel Mission Basilica (Father Junipero Serra’s 1750 classic mission)
• Romantic sunset walk or picnic along beautiful Scenic Drive and/or the white sand Carmel Beach
• Visit some of the 80+ art galleries and many shops in Carmel-By-The-Sea
• Drinks or dining at Clint Eastwood’s Mission Ranch (831-625-9040) (The Hogs Breath Inn is no longer Clint’s!)
• Guided walking tour of Carmel (2 hours) by expert guide for "the homes, haunts and history or famous artists, writers and movie stars".


Carmel Valley

Visit the Barnyard and The Crossroads shopping centers at the mouth of Carmel Valley
• Excellent Wine Tasting in Carmel Valley Village at the four best wineries: Bernardus (831-659-1900) Bernardus Vineyards, Heller-Durney Heller Durney Vineyards, Joullian Vineyards, and Talbott Talbott Vineyards
• Lunch at The Corkscrew Café Corkscrew Café or

• Hike at Garland Ranch

Big Sur

Drive to Big Sur and enjoy a glass of wine at Rocky Point Restaurant, Post Ranch Inn, Nepenthe, Ventana, or the River Inn
• Walk lovely Garrapata Beach (10 miles south of Carmel) or visit any of Big Sur's beautiful beaches.
• Visit the famous Hawthorne Gallery (modern art and scuptures that appeal to any eyeHawthorne Gallery and The Henry Miller Memorial Library (open Wednesday – Sunday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm) • Visit (hike or drive through) Point Lobos State Park, the inspirational setting for Robert Lewis Stevenson's Treasure Island - “most beautiful meeting of land and water”

Monterey

• World famous Monterey Bay Aquarium

• Rent a Bike or Kayak Monterey Bay – Adventures by the Sea  Kayak & Bike Rentals
• Whale watching trips or salmon fishing party boats at Fisherman’s Wharf Sanctuary Whale Watching
• Walking tour of Old Monterey, California’s first capital (Tour begins at the Maritime Museum – 5 Portola Plaza at the end of Alvarado St.) (Tours start at 10:00 am, 11:00 am, and 2:00 pm – the cost is $5)
• Visit historic Cannery Row and the many shops (family oriented)
• Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey and restaurants (can be “touristy” but interesting)
